The assignment was to create a blog post on our class blog with two sources related to a topic. My topic was teacher conduct in social media, and I used an article from the NEA and a podcast from Illinois State University.
I thought that this assignment was very useful, I learned how to make a proper blog post and a little bit of coding. It was interesting researching the topic and also hearing about others' topics.
As for the tech side, a blog is something I will definitely consider using, as I plan on teaching high school students. It could be a convenient way to share learning material outside of class and also post assignments and such. On the research side, I recently scoured my Facebook, which is relatively clean anyways, to ensure only my friends could see anything and everything related to me. So there's that.
I think the blog and the topic I researched were good representations for standard four of the NETS for Teachers, which is to promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility. As both educators and role models, we must ensure that students know the responsibility and dangers that come with the internet, in that any information that you put out there will likely remain out there. We also must be models for our own sake, as we are often put up to higher moral standards than other professions, so we have to be extra careful.
